December Already?

December Already?!
I realize that the point of a blog is to often post updates. Whoops a doodle!!!
So here I am … posting! It doesn’t feel like December at all with weather up in the mid 30’s and the humidity making you feel like you’re drinking the air instead of breathing it!

As I read the updates and posts on facebook about the snow falling and the Christmas decorations coming out I began to sink into a pool of self-pity. Oh poor me. Wait. I’m in Australia for Pete’s Sake! So here’s my top ten list of why I’m a lucky duck and have no reason to be pitied!
1. The Sun Sun Sun.
2. My job is something that I love to do.
3. Old friends and new friends
4. Seeing God provide in NEW ways.
5. Not getting sunburnt!
6. My favorite season is coming up. Christmas cheer is in the air!
7. I can talk to my family on Skype via webcam: Lucky!
8. I’m going to Indo in March!
9. Dad is doing alright.
10. I know that I’m where I’m supposed to be!!!

Thank you all to those who send me updates, emails and encouragements. You keep me sane!!!

The Beginning

Here we go now …
So … my blog begins. I didn’t think I’d ever join up with the whole blog sensation but once I had seen friends do amazing jobs with theirs, I was inspired to trot along after them!
I’ll start with my most recent adventure: Fraser Island.
So, speaking without really thinking, I volunteered to drive if needed. Since my advanced years were a bonus, I was taken aboard as a driver. It wouldn’t have been so thrilling if I had actually known how to drive a 4x4 vehicle. Or known how to drive in sand. Or ever really been 4 wheeling! It was 2 days of intense concentration and a whole lot of prayer in between. I’ve never prayed so much for Divine intervention on behalf of a vehicle! Before we even drove aboard the ferry to take us to the island, everyone could smell the clutch in my truck. This sacred the wits out of me! So I then avoided the pedal as much as I could humanly do so. Only by the grace of God did the clutch not burn out!

This little mini-trip was great to get to know some of the students on the current September 09 DTS. Since I was going to be serving them for the next few weeks I thought it was a great opportunity to hang out with them. The girls in my truck were so gracious to get out and push whenever the truck wouldn’t make it out of a rut and no amount of rocking or acceleration would help it out. I daresay they got the workout of a month’s work! God taught me a lot about being transparent. When I don’t know what to do or what ‘that’ button does, I was forced to ask ask ask.

How often do I forget to ask. I always assume that if I don’t know what to do in a situation or how to go with a decision, I ought to tough it out and find my own way. How amazing is it that God knows better. And He’s always available to ask. And He’s always speaking words of wisdom and encouragement to do what we’ve set out to do - and do it well.
